The verdict uses the worst hourly score in your selected interval. A pleasant two-hour window cannot cancel stronger gusts or heavier rain later. Today and tomorrow also show the strongest gust, heaviest hourly precipitation and lowest air temperature across that day’s forecast, including periods outside your selected ride. Local time refers to the searched location.
Forecast gusts are short peaks; the precipitation value covers the preceding hour. Rain probability describes the chance of precipitation, not its intensity. Apparent temperature is the provider’s ambient estimate and does not include riding speed. The optional riding-airflow illustration uses a separate exposed-skin model.
Your limits and the model
Personal settings add stricter comfort limits. They cannot cancel a thunderstorm, snow, freezing-weather code or a model wind cap. The motorcycle defaults penalise gusts from 38, 50 and 65 km/h; cap the score at MAYBE from 60 and NO-GO from 75 km/h. These are product rules, not certified safe riding speeds. A forecast cannot measure road grip, standing water, luggage loading or how your motorcycle handles.

What makes a good riding day
Rain matters twice on a motorcycle: it can reduce road grip and make it harder to see through a visor. Gusts deserve a separate check, especially on open roads and bridges. The model weighs rain probability and amount, gust strength, feels-like temperature and visibility; storm, snow and ice codes can override an otherwise promising score.
Check the hours covering your return as well as your departure. For longer rides, use the route tool to compare forecast conditions along the journey. A GO is weather guidance, not a road inspection: standing water, actual ice, traffic, surface damage and your tyres are not measured. Adjust the plan to what you find on the road.
| Changed input | Score | Verdict | Cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dry reference hour | 100/100 | GO | None |
| Gusts 38 km/h | 85/100 | GO | None |
| Gusts 60 km/h | 64/100 | MAYBE | MAYBE |
| Gusts 75 km/h | 40/100 | NO-GO | NO-GO |
| Rain 0.3 mm/h | 55/100 | MAYBE | None |
| Feels-like 4°C | 78/100 | GO | None |
| Gusts 50 plus rain 0.3 | 25/100 | NO-GO | None |
Each example changes only the listed inputs from a dry, clear reference hour: air and feels-like temperature 18°C, steady wind and gusts 10 km/h, visibility 10 km, no precipitation, 0% precipitation probability and UV 0. These illustrative results are calculated from the same scoring functions as the live tool. Several penalties can combine into a lower verdict.
A score of 70–100 is GO, 45–69 MAYBE, and 0–44 NO-GO. A MAYBE cap limits the effective score to 64, and a NO-GO cap to 40. These are the model’s suitability bands, not certified safe operating limits.
Wind is the underrated hazard
Riders need to distinguish steady wind from sudden gusts. An exposed bridge, a gap in shelter or a change of direction can make the same point forecast feel different along a route. This motorcycle model scores peak gusts; it does not calculate the crosswind angle for the road or the handling of your bike.
Rain changes the road, not just the forecast
Rain can change grip and visibility, but the forecast cannot tell when a particular road becomes slippery or dries again. It does not measure oil, surface water or drainage, and there is no automatic safe waiting period after rain begins. Check the hourly rain forecast and the actual road conditions separately.
Plan the whole outing
Choose the start point and the destination in the route planner. A good city-centre forecast does not cover an exposed bridge or a mountain pass between them. Compare the gust and rain columns at the time you expect to reach each part of the route. If the return is several hours later, check that period too.
The forecast does not measure road grip, standing water, ice on a shaded bend, traffic or crosswind exposure. Apparent temperature is ambient: it does not include the extra cooling caused by riding speed.

Motorcycle weather FAQ
What wind speed is too strong to ride?
The software subtracts wind points from 38 km/h gusts, caps the result at MAYBE from 60 km/h, and at NO-GO from 75 km/h. These are model settings, not universal riding limits. Steady wind, exposure, the bike and the rider still need a separate assessment.
Is it safe to ride in the rain?
The verdict cannot establish that a wet road is safe. Rain penalties describe the forecast; they do not measure grip, standing water, spray or braking distance. Inspect the complete journey and actual conditions, not only the driest hour.
What's the coldest comfortable riding temperature?
Comfort depends on the rider and equipment. The model uses apparent temperature from the forecast, which does not include the additional cooling caused by riding speed. The worked examples below show how the temperature input affects the score, not how cold every rider can tolerate.
How far ahead can I plan?
The seven-day view helps compare possible days. The daily verdict uses the worst complete hour from 06:00 to 22:00, with insufficient data shown when required hours are missing. Check the hourly view for the whole trip and check again nearer departure, because forecasts can change.
