Plan drone & rc weather around Cape Town

Choose the actual Cape Town launch site before using a drone verdict.

A central point does not describe every coastal or elevated launch site. Compare the manual’s wind limit with the forecast for the launch and intended flight period, then check access and airspace separately. South Africa currently has only this published drone point, so the country card is not a national flight assessment.

Official warning check for Cape Town

Open South African Weather Service warnings and check City of Cape Town and the Western Cape areas involved. Read the affected area, start/end time and instructions. This is a separate warning check: GoNoGo does not ingest that service’s alerts, and a missing alert here means nothing about whether a warning exists.

These planning notes describe how to compare forecasts; they are not current observations, a route recommendation or a claim that a location is safe. Warning-source links checked in September 2026.

Before launching

Search for the actual flying site, not just the nearest city. Compare the gust forecast with the limits in your aircraft manual, which may be lower than this model. Check precipitation and visibility independently. Confirm airspace and local restrictions with the responsible authority before flying.

This model does not check airspace restrictions, take-off permission, people below, aircraft type, altitude winds or the wind needed to fly home against a headwind. Its fixed thresholds are application settings, not a manufacturer rating for your aircraft.

Interpret the drone & rc result

A high wind-resistance rating is not a target operating condition. The model uses a gust threshold of 38 km/h for a MAYBE cap and 46 km/h for NO-GO, but a lighter aircraft can require a much lower limit. A GO is never a confirmation that visual line of sight, battery condition or the return flight is adequate.

See the drone & rc model with worked examples and check every hour of your outing; a favourable daily summary is not an all-day clearance.
